Bronze is perhaps the metal with the most beautiful range of colours. I wanted to explore this richness through a series of small outdoor pieces designed to evolve over time, transform with the seasons and bear the marks of exposure to the elements.
When freshly polished, bronze has warm, orangey, copper tones. Then, over the months and years, moisture and exposure to the air gradually darken its surface until it becomes deep brown, almost black. After fifteen to twenty years outdoors, depending on the conditions, it may develop a verdigris patina.
Bronze has long been associated with immortality, protection and transformation. These small pieces therefore take the form of apotropaic amulets, intended to protect the home.
They can be hung directly on a nail, above a window, on a door or lintel, or anywhere else you wish to place under their symbolic protection. They are naturally suited to façades, house entrances and gardens, like small, silent sentinels watching over the place.
They can also be displayed indoors, but you'll need to be patient if you want to see them turn green: this is a material that transforms on a long timescale, and each patina will be unique.
